Notes:
– It’s already technically do-able per-game
– If you set Control to run on Proton Experimental and add a launch option that’s linked in the article, it’ll add Ray Tracing options to the settings
– (Show that the game runs at around 4 FPS)
– Not to take away from Digital Foundry’s video because it’s really interesting, but the idea that Linux doesn’t support ray tracing isn’t true, the driver just needs to be optimized before Valve or AMD ship it as a feature and I think it’s cool they’re going to do that at all because Ray Tracing is incredibly demanding
– Even on my laptop which has an 11th Gen i7, 32GB of RAM and a 3080 in it, I have to use DLSS and Medium Ray Tracing settings to get a locked 60fps in control at 1440p
– And we’ve seen how big of a performance hit games take when using the feature on the PS5, often needing to drop resolution to 1080p and limit framerate to 30fps
– I hope that ray tracing gets more optimized and less demanding as time goes on though because having seen it in action, it’s not just a gimmick and the improvements it provides are immediately noticeable.

– This is messy. It’s too long so you have to use double sided tape to hold it down.
– Instead of using SteamOS, it uses Windows 11 running off a Micro SD because there isn’t an easy way to run SteamOS off a Micro SD
– Runs Witcher 3 at 4K Ultra
– The Steam Deck CPU limits games like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring which makes sense because it’s a mobile chip and they’re already selling the Deck at a loss
– God of War runs around 40fps 4K Ultra
– The real win here is that this works. Valve allows this thing to be way more open than something like a Nintendo Switch or even an Xbox Series X and that’s cool.
