Assassin’s Creed 3 – Steam Deck Handheld Gameplay and Benchmark

In this video we are taking a look at the original Assassin’s Creed 3 on the Steam Deck. During the making of this video I discovered there is a remastered version, which I might check out, depending on how much it costs and if it improves anything visually. AC 3 is a bit older title, Desmond was still the main protagonist and Ubisoft had some idea of what they were doing with the AC Series. As such the game runs pretty amazing on the Steam Deck. One thing to note here is that this is installed directly through Steam without using Proton layer. The game is installed and then Ubisoft Connect launcher is also installed. Unfortunately you cannot launch AC games without Ubisoft, so there is some performance hang from that client.

The first part of this video is gameplay showcase and at the end I perform some basic benchmarking. If you crank this game to the highest settings, particularly shadows and anti-aliasing, you will not be able to reach 60 FPS.

There is also some testing done with the screen capped to 40hz and I am surprised to say it’s quite enjoyable gameplay experience.
