Ever wondered what it’s like to trade your traditional arcade stick for WASD buttons? I had a chance to try out this unique fight stick at PAX East and was immediately hooked. You’ve probably seen these custom controllers before, but the Swirl has a special secret: a dual thumb dome design that promises to change the game.

I’m a creature of habit, and with over 40 years of muscle memory, I was skeptical. Could a keyboard-style controller really replace my go-to D-pads for fighting games like Street Fighter 6, or even 2D platformers like Celeste and Hollow Knight? You’ll be surprised by my journey to master the Swirl controller.

But it’s not just for fighting games! I put the Swirl to the test on 3D games, including Elden Ring and a few first-person shooters. Does it live up to the hype? We’ll also cover its premium mechanical keyboard switches, remapping buttons with Steam Input, and the different versions, including the multi-console Brook chip model.
