Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands – Steam Deck Gameplay
In today’s video we are taking a look at the last Prince of Persia game – Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands on the Steam Deck. This game came out in 2010 and was supposed to come along side the movie, but the movie was delayed. The game is set between the first and the second game. The Steam Deck was able to handle it again playing smoothly at 60 FPS with minor dips on some cutscenes. Battery life is around 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The game is currently marked as unsupported as when you launch it, it tries to install an older version of Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft Connect used to be called Ubisoft Game Launcher and this is where things start to get really messy.
The protonDB page has various comments with possible fixes. I tried all of them, but was not able to get it to work: https://www.protondb.com/app/33320
What worked for me is first installing Ubisoft Connect and then installing the game from that launcher. This isn’t the best way, but it’s what worked for me. I believe the minor stuttering issues in the game could’ve been caused by having Ubisoft Connect open as well.
Regardless of all that, if you are not afraid of some tinkering on the Deck, this is a great game to play handheld. The controls finally have the correct labels across the screen and are very intuitive.
Footage was captured directly on the Deck using a plugin called Decky Recorder.
