Can the Steam Deck run System Shock?
Today we are taking a look at the remake of the game System Shock on the Steam Deck. In the game System Shock, a psychotic AI named SHODAN has taken control of a space station and is threatening Earth. As the player, your mission is to navigate the dark space station, fighting and hacking your way through to stop SHODAN and prevent humanity’s destruction. The game offers a non-linear story with multiple routes and corridors, allowing players to experience the narrative at their own pace. The remake of the 1994 classic features fully updated visuals, an overhauled interface and controls, new sounds and music, while still maintaining the original’s charm.
System Shock runs surprisingly well on the Steam Deck. The game has been visually overhauled, but some textures still look like they are from 1994. You cant expect to play it at ultra settings, but at Medium – High you can get solid 60 FPS and close to 2 hours of battery life on the Steam Deck. System Shock doesn’t feel great when played with controller versus a mouse, but it’s still a solid experience.
Footage was captured directly on the Steam Deck using a plugin called Decky Recorder
